The 10 Most Essential Men’s Wear Items

I’m starting with a disclaimer. This is my opinion not facts of fashion. Take what you like and use it and leave what you don’t. Now that’s over lets move onward… I hope everyone can take something away from this post growing in their vast knowledge of men’s wear, whether you’re fresh in the game and looking for what you want in a wardrobe or been here for a while and what to see if you still have the basics covered. Before we kick this off let’s talk about what makes an item eligible for an essentials list.

Why makes something Essential?

Something that gets labeled essential has to be something absolutely necessary/extremely important according to the dictionary. Adding on top of that to bring context to the style world it must be versatile and timeless. You will see seasonal essentials or year specific must have’s that play outside of the rules a little because you want to stay current and that is essential for the time. Here in this post, we are talking timeless items that transcend trends, seasons, and culter shifts. As long as you’re well enough to be a stylish man this list will never betray you!

Beginner

1. Plain White T-Shirt

If you’re a casual man or just a man, in general, you will benefit from a great fitting white t-shirt, it can be worn in a plethora of outfits and the range it has on different style sects from streetwear to smart casual it find a home in every wardrobe. A black shirt can take its place if you know that’s you’re style, for the guy not sure or on the fence id say do the white and see how it feels before you buy a black one. Better yet buy both!

2. Fashion Sneakers

Fashion sneakers, not Nike basketball shoes, we’re talking Adidas Stan Smiths or Nike Killshot 2’s. Again very versatile and makes people think you care about your appearance. I was hesitant to say white sneakers are the way to go, Don’t get me wrong I love white sneakers but I don’t find them very versatile. You don’t wear them in the winter, rain, or anytime they could get muddy, so as much as I love them I’d something that hides dirt better for a first pain.

3. Dark Wash Denim

Dark blue jeans are the greatest default in a man’s casual style arsenal. Dres it up down and all around. They never look dirty and when fitted right they are dynamite. Nothing painted on tight gents. You want to leave just a little bit of room to better shape your body. Anything too tight or lose look bad in most cases.

4. Chinos (Tan, Blue, Gray)

A chino is a man’s true best friend, much like the jean you can throw it on and hit the town with a white T, or blazer, or both! Its a smarter look then the jean to help change up the message you send to people. The colors listed above are my top pick but any natural earth tone will do the job!

5. Casual Button Up

Either for streetwear or a more dapper approach, both side can benefit here from an item like this. It can be a flannel or gingham its perfect for layering or just dressing up an outfit.

6. Accessory

Call me a cheaper but I really don’t care what you think of me haha. I’m want to get them all in but I don’t believe they all deserve their own rank.

1 Tie (solid or small repeating pattern) throw on for an interview or a nice date. Ties the whole suit together! 😂

2 A belt that matches your dress shoes, and one for casual wear.

3 A timepiece that’s not too loud and can be slipped on with a suit or T-shirt and jeans like Vincero or the 5th.  A wrist without a watch or bracelet can look long and lanky, adding a wrist accessory can add much need proportions to your body

7. Boots

It’s hard to picture a complete wardrobe without a pair of boots. Getting the right pair is key and all comes down to your personal style. But the 2 most versatile in my opinion are the chelsea and the chukka you can’t go wrong with either. I’m starting to sound like a broken record now, you can dress them both up if you’d like for some added flare, or down and add some structure to an outfit especially in fall and winter!

8. A Tailored Suittailored suit.jpg

I’m going to leak some super valuable information to you guys. Nothing (when I say nothing I mean nothing) will make you look your best & attract women more than a well-fitting suit. Let face it guys 99.999 percent of suits off the rack will not fit perfectly to your body, okay maybe a few will but usually the pant length or sleeve length need adjusting. No matter what your body type ti will enhance your natural quality’s no matter your size. I’d highly recommend having a blue and gray as the core and build up from there. In all honesty, every suit you have should be tailored to your body. I’m not saying at all needs to be custom but it does need to be altered.

9.  Fitted Dress shirt (White)

This goes with the suit. Having a white button up that fits you well has endless possibilities when it comes to style. There are some cases where an Oxford would be a better choice you can dress it up or down to match an outfits formality saving you money from buying 2 shirts. If you can, however, get both do so because a white dress shirt without a button down collar looks better with a suit.

10. Brown Dress shoes

Get a clean-cut pair if cash is tight eye catchy shoes don’t work well when they are your only pair(Trust me I learned from experience). if you have some mola to spend go with something a bit more flashy like brogues and monk straps with a classic pair. The reason I say brown when some would say black is due to the versatility. It’s good with more suit colors and transcends formality well to which makes it a great pair with some jeans, which happens to be the next essential!

Let me know what you think should make the list! And stay dapper gents!
